Colombia recognizes police heroism and environmental innovation

Various awards and recognitions were presented in Bogotá, Colombia, highlighting achievements in public service and environmental management.

The 26th edition of the Corazón Verde Award will honor 13 finalists from the National Police on September 29 at the Universidad EAN. The ceremony recognizes officers across four categories: Fighting Crime and Maintaining Public Order, Innovation and Best Practices in Management, Community Leadership, and Heroism. The event will also include a tribute to fallen officers, noting that 178 police members died in the last year, including 75 in 2026.

In environmental news, Corponor received the 2026 MapBiomas Colombia Award in the Public Policy category. Director General Rafael Humberto Camacho accepted the award for GeoNorte Ambiental Pro, a technological tool that integrates over 100 environmental variables to generate reports in minutes rather than weeks. Led by the Fundación Gaia Amazonas, the award recognizes the tool's ability to support territorial planning and natural resource management through automated cartographic data analysis.
