Colombia releases 2026 Subregional Gender Gap Measurement

The 2026 Subregional Gender Gap Measurement (MSBG) has been released, providing a comparative analysis of gender differences across Colombia's 32 departments and Bogotá D.C. The study is a collaborative effort between Universidad del Rosario, the Consejo Privado de Competitividad (CPC), and Davivienda.

The measurement utilizes 70 indicators organized into six pillars: Welfare Infrastructure, Care Infrastructure, Representation and Leadership, Markets, Education, and Health. The 2026 results show an average score of 5.03 out of 10 across the 33 territories, an improvement from 2024 (4.91) but a decrease from 2025 (5.13). While 20 territories showed score increases between 2024 and 2026, 13 territories saw declines.

Bogotá D.C., Cundinamarca, Atlántico, Antioquia, and Valle del Cauca lead the rankings, driven by stronger capacities in care and welfare infrastructure. Conversely, Amazonas, Vichada, Guaviare, Vaupés, and Guainía recorded the lowest scores due to structural challenges in basic service access and representation. A significant area of concern is the Markets pillar, which saw a decline in 28 of the 33 territories, dropping from an average of 5.12 in 2024 to 4.47 in 2026.
