Gustavo Petro's last‑week appointments and legal disputes
In the final days of his administration, President Gustavo Petro issued a series of appointments. He signed a decree naming eight new notaries across Colombian cities, including former congresswoman Karyme Cotes as interim notary in Medellín. A separate decree (0905) appointed Minister of Mines and Energy Edwin Palma to also serve ad hoc as minister of Labor and as minister of Housing, giving him three portfolios just before the term ended on 7 August.
At the same time, the government declared Angie Rodríguez, director of the Adaptation Fund, insubsistent via decree 0936 while she was on medical leave with reinforced labor stability. Rodríguez’s legal team announced a constitutional tutela against President Petro, claiming her fundamental rights were violated.
Separately, Nicolás Petro Burgos, the president’s son, became the subject of a judicial investigation for alleged illicit enrichment and money‑laundering, intensifying political scrutiny of the Petro administration.
