Colombia reports surge in domestic violence against children and women

In Bogotá, intra‑family violence against children rose 20 % in the first half of 2026, with 3,681 cases reported compared with 3,067 in the same period of 2025. Councilor María Clara Name noted that most assaults occur without weapons and urged the city administration and schools to improve early detection, psychological support and timely judicial response. While sexual offenses against minors fell 42 % to 653 cases, four minors are still victims of sexual violence each day, largely in public spaces.

In Fusagasugá, Cundinamarca, 23‑year‑old Mónica Pérez was violently beaten, an attack captured on a security camera. After being reported missing, she later appeared at the police station to file a formal complaint. Authorities are seeking her alleged partner, who is currently evading capture, highlighting ongoing concerns about gender‑based violence in the region.
