Colombia Representative introduces bill to reform sexual education

Representative David Cote has introduced a bill titled ‘He is he and she is she’ in the Colombian Chamber of Representatives. The legislative initiative seeks to modify sexual education regulations for students from preschool through secondary school.

The proposal aims to base sexual education on biological reality, utilizing foundations from medicine, neuroscience, and neuropsychology. It seeks to prevent the inclusion of methodologies that disregard biological sex or encourage diverse gender identities in the classroom. A central pillar of the bill is strengthening the role of parents, granting them increased oversight and participation in curricular contents related to sexual education.

In addition to identity discussions, the bill incorporates public health components, including the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), teenage pregnancy, and sexual violence. It also includes information regarding the implications of gender-affirming medical treatments and induced abortion.
