Colombia revokes Salvatore Mancuso’s peace negotiator status
The Colombian government has detailed the reasons for revoking Salvatore Mancuso’s designation as a peace negotiator. President Abelardo De la Espriella signed Resolution 429 of 2026, officially removing the former AUC member from his role.
Mancuso had originally been appointed under the administration of Gustavo Petro as part of the ‘Total Peace’ policy to share expertise on the collective disarmament of illegal groups. However, the Council of State had previously issued a provisional suspension of the appointment, noting that the original 2023 resolution lacked specific details regarding the duration of the term, geographic areas of operation, and concrete functions.
Government spokesperson Miller Soto stated that the revocation aligns with the President’s authority to manage peace policy and maintain public order. The decision does not impact the ongoing legal proceedings Mancuso faces in the justice system.
