Colombia rolls out cash aid for seniors in Atlántico and free English classes in Bogotá

Prosperidad Social will deliver the fifth cycle of the Colombia Mayor programme in the Atlántico department from June 5 to 24, reaching 140,262 older adults with a one‑time transfer of 230,000 pesos each. The regional rollout, costing more than 32.5 billion pesos, is part of a national effort that supports roughly three million seniors with an investment exceeding 649 billion pesos. Payments are scheduled in two phases to avoid the weekend of the June 21 presidential runoff.

Separately, the Bogotá mayor's office has partnered with the National Learning Service (SENA) to offer free English courses through the YesBogotá initiative. The virtual, 48‑hour program is open to city residents aged 50 and over, with enrollment limited by a qualification test. The aim is to improve bilingual skills and expand labour‑market opportunities for older Bogotanos.
