Colombia sees surge in Nordic tourism arrivals
Tourism from Nordic countries to Colombia has seen significant growth, with arrivals increasing from approximately 5,400 to over 20,100 in recent years. Data analyzed by ProColombia and Migración Colombia indicates that the number of travelers from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland has nearly quadrupled.
Sweden has emerged as the primary source country within this group. While Bogotá, Cartagena, and Medellín are the most frequent destinations, San Andrés stands out for having the highest average spending per card transaction, averaging US$ 506. This is significantly higher than the averages in Cartagena (US$ 250), Medellín (US$ 214), Bogotá (US$ 206), and Santa Marta (US$ 177).
Overall average spending per card for Nordic tourists in Colombia grew by 16.3% between 2024 and 2025, reaching US$ 320 per transaction. The highest expenditures are concentrated in travel agencies, accommodation, and airlines. Despite the growth, connectivity remains a challenge as there are no direct flights from Nordic countries to Colombia, with most travelers connecting through Amsterdam.
