Colombia sets 6% economic growth target under new plan

The Colombian government, led by President Abelardo De La Espriella, has set an ambitious economic growth target of at least 6% as part of its “Economía Milagro” (Miracle Economy) project. Vice President José Manuel Restrepo, who has been tasked via Decree 1373 with leading the nation's economic agenda, aims to achieve this goal by increasing productivity and improving investment conditions.

This target significantly exceeds recent performance and international projections. While DANE reported a 2.6% GDP growth in 2025 and 2.9% in the first half of 2026, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected growth of only 2.3% for 2026. To bridge this gap, Restrepo will focus on modernizing the state through the use of artificial intelligence and data analysis to reduce bureaucracy and streamline public policy.

Restrepo’s mandate includes overseeing energy security, competitiveness, and strategic investments. The administration plans to coordinate various ministries—including infrastructure, energy, trade, and agriculture—to present projects to global investors. Additionally, the government will launch “Milagro Week” investment summits, starting in the United States and expanding to Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America, alongside the “Talento Colombia” initiative to strengthen human capital.
