Colombia shifts foreign policy toward Israel through military tech cooperation
The Colombian government, under President Abelardo de la Espriella, is undergoing a significant foreign policy shift toward Israel. This realignment includes reopening the Colombian embassy in East Jerusalem and recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
As part of this transformation, approximately 30 Israeli companies are expected to visit Colombia to explore investment opportunities. The cooperation is expected to focus heavily on security architecture, including military technology, surveillance, intelligence, and cybersecurity. The political party 'Defenders of the Homeland' has stated that closer ties with the Israeli defense industry will facilitate technology transfers and create specialized jobs while strengthening the fight against organized crime.
