Colombia social organizations plan major protests against government

Social organizations in Colombia are preparing for a major national mobilization on October 11 against the government of Abelardo de la Espriella, who has been in power for two months. The protests aim to demand labor and educational rights while rejecting restrictive government policies.

The Colombian Federation of Educators (Fecode) has called for teachers to defend public education and labor rights, specifically seeking the reconstruction of schools damaged by an earthquake on August 10. Additionally, the Bogotá District Association of Educators (ADE) has announced a 24-hour strike to protest salary deductions and the non-fulfillment of collective agreements.

Indigenous groups are also participating in the movement. Four organizations from southwestern Colombia are meeting in the Cauca department to coordinate their positions and join the national mobilization on Wednesday. These groups express concern that recent executive decisions threaten their territorial interests.
