Colombia suspends gun permits during presidential inauguration
The Colombian National Army issued temporary suspensions of firearms and traumatic‑weapon permits to ensure public safety during the presidential inauguration and the accompanying holiday weekend in early August 2026. The Third Brigade of the Army ordered a blanket suspension in the Valle del Cauca department from 00:00 hrs on Thursday 6 August until 06:00 hrs on Sunday 9 August, with exceptions for law‑enforcement agencies, the prosecutor’s office, the judiciary, the governor’s office, active and veteran members of the armed forces and other authorized personnel.
The Thirteenth Brigade applied a similar restriction in Bogotá and most of the department of Cundinamarca, beginning at 18:00 hrs on Thursday 6 August and ending at 18:00 hrs on Saturday 8 August. The municipalities of Medina, Paratebueno, San Juanito and El Calvario were excluded. The same categories of officials and security forces were exempted. The measures were presented as preventive actions linked to the presidential possession ceremony and were intended to reduce the risk of public disturbances during the three‑day holiday.
