Colombia textile industry sees growth through innovation

The Colombian textile and garment industry is undergoing a period of transformation driven by technological innovation, production modernization, and a focus on sustainability. According to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the sector supports approximately 1.5 million jobs.

Economic data shows the industry recorded US$629 million in exports during 2025, with external sales reaching US$133.8 million in the first quarter of 2026. Productivity has seen a significant boost; the 'Fábricas de Productividad' program reported over 740 interventions in textile companies since 2022, contributing to a cumulative productivity increase of 32.83% through 2025.

Beyond machinery and digital tools, the sector is prioritizing responsible production models. This includes efficient raw material use, waste reduction, and the adoption of environmentally friendly materials. Additionally, Colombian brands are increasingly integrating cultural identity with international trends to compete through design and quality rather than price alone.
