San Andrés Hospital faces investigation over alleged parallel payrolls

The Colombian government and national oversight bodies have launched investigations into the Departmental Hospital of San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina following allegations of administrative irregularities. These include the existence of a suspected parallel payroll, irregular contracting processes, and the deterioration of medical equipment.

Minister of Health Ana María Vesga announced an exhaustive audit of all contracts, invoices, and resources. To facilitate this, the government will deploy a forensic team to analyze contractual processes and a technical team to strengthen hospital operations, including the acquisition of new medical equipment and an ambulance.

Additionally, Attorney General Gregorio Eljach confirmed that a team of five experts from the Procuraduría will travel to the archipelago to gather evidence. The investigation aims to determine responsibility for potential anomalies, such as contracts that may have favored relatives of departmental authorities and issues regarding the management of hazardous waste. The oversight body is also looking into reports that hospital workers have gone months without receiving their salaries.
