Colombian Air Force recovers bodies of four doctors after aircraft crash
The Colombian Air Force has recovered the bodies of four medical professionals who died in a Cessna T206 aircraft crash. The accident occurred on September 13, 2026, in the Tatamá National Natural Park, in a mountainous region between the departments of Chocó and Risaralda.
The victims, identified as Perla Constanza Álvarez, Sandy García, María Guzmán, and Yuliza Figueredo, were part of a medical mission providing aid to those affected by an earthquake that occurred on August 10. The aircraft, registration HK-4985, lost contact with air traffic control while flying from Condoto to Bogotá.
President Abelardo de La Espriella confirmed the recovery of the doctors' remains and noted that the pilot, Mehmet Cankaya, was the only occupant whose body had not yet been retrieved at the time of the announcement. The recovery operation was significantly hindered by difficult terrain, heavy rainfall, and steep slopes. The recovered bodies were transported to Pereira for forensic procedures before being sent to Bogotá.
