Colombian Army Colonel charged with leaking secrets to ELN and FARC dissidents

Colombian Army Colonel Carlos Didier Pérez Amorocho has been charged by the Attorney General's Office for allegedly providing classified military intelligence to illegal armed groups in exchange for regular payments.

The investigation indicates that the corruption began in 2020 while Pérez Amorocho was commanding a battalion in Arauca. He reportedly received an initial payment of 15 million pesos to reduce military offensives against the ELN's Eastern War Front.

According to prosecutors, the scheme escalated after he assumed command of an elite unit in Nariño in July 2025. During this period, he allegedly established ties with the Alfonso Cano Block of the Segunda Marquetalia, a FARC dissident group. He is accused of receiving weekly payments of 30 million pesos to alert the group about public force movements, facilitating the transport of weapons, drugs, and ammunition. The prosecution also noted an incident in April 2026 where the colonel allegedly delayed troop advances, allowing armed leaders to escape during a military operation.
