Colombian army kills FARC dissident commander 'Rosjanin

The Colombian army has killed Hernando Forero Mosquera, a rebel commander known by the pseudonym "Rosjanin" (The Russian). The operation took place in the eastern part of the country, as confirmed by the army leadership.

Mosquera was a leader within a splinter group of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), specifically operating under the structure led by Nestor Gregorio Vera, known as "Ivan Mordisco." While the main FARC organization signed a peace agreement with the government in 2016, Mosquera and his faction refused to disarm and continued armed conflict.

His group was allegedly involved in illegal arms trafficking and narcotics. Colombian intelligence has previously identified links between criminal networks and Russian-related smuggling operations, involving the exchange of weaponry such as AK-47s and RPGs for cocaine. Local media in Bogota have characterized the death of the commander as a significant success for the recently inaugurated president, Abelardo de la Esprielli.
