Colombian art highlighted through Botero-inspired works in Medellín and Bogotá
In the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Medellín, artist José Hernán González has created an outdoor museum featuring six sculptures inspired by the work of Fernando Botero. The project, located in the Los Cerros urbanization, was conceived to bring Botero's iconic style to local youth who face difficulties traveling to the city's traditional Plaza Botero.
González crafted the pieces using an artisanal process involving styrofoam structures, metal mesh, cement, and a calcium-based mixture to achieve a ceramic-like texture, finished with a bronze effect and varnish.
Meanwhile, in Bogotá, the exhibition ‘Entre París y Bogotá, hace medio siglo’ is being presented as part of the UN_FAIR event at the Hotel Tequendama. Curated by Álvaro Medina, the exhibition features 29 Colombian artists, including Fernando Botero and Luis Caballero, highlighting a period when Paris served as a vital training ground for Colombian painters seeking international recognition.
