Colombian authorities arrest suspected Balkan Cartel associate
Colombian authorities have arrested 46-year-old Julian Garcia Perez, known by the alias ‘Hermes’, near Medellin. Perez is suspected of being a key collaborator with the Balkan Cartel, facilitating the shipment of approximately two tons of cocaine to Europe every month.
The arrest was the result of an international investigation, with Luxembourg authorities specifically seeking him for drug trafficking. According to Medellin Security Secretary Manuel Villa Mejia, Perez was apprehended following several days of surveillance while walking his dog.
Investigators allege that the narcotics shipments originated from the port of Cartagena in Colombia and were primarily destined for the port of Antwerp in Belgium. Authorities believe Perez served as a vital link in the international drug supply chain through his logistical connections with the Balkan criminal network.
