Law enforcement operations across South America target drug trafficking and crime
Security forces across several South American countries have conducted a series of operations targeting organized crime, narcotics trafficking, and illegal activities.
In Colombia, authorities in Medellín dismantled a criminal group known as ‘Los Chivos,’ seizing 32 kilograms of cocaine and disrupting a network generating significant illegal revenue. Other Colombian operations resulted in the arrest of individuals for extortion in Cundinamarca, drug seizures in Bogotá, and the recovery of weapons and narcotics in Boyacá.
In Argentina, police conducted multiple raids. In Tucumán, over 53 kilograms of cocaine were seized from vehicles. In the Vaca Muerta region, authorities intercepted cocaine and marijuana, while in Formosa, a joint operation led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of over two kilograms of cocaine near the Paraguay River border. Additionally, an operation in Paraná resulted in the recovery of 11 firearms following a shootout.
Other regional activities include the seizure of weapons and narcotics in La Guajira, Colombia; the arrest of a man with 3.3 kilograms of cocaine in Uruguay; and a large-scale operation in Sorata, Bolivia, where 22 people were detained for illegal mining, leading to the seizure of explosives, weapons, and mercury.
