Colombia intensifies security operations against criminal groups
Colombian security forces have launched a series of widespread operations targeting criminal organizations, narcotics trafficking, and illegal structures across several departments.
In Valle del Cauca, 300 specialized soldiers were deployed to Jamundí to counter the Jaime Martínez FARC dissident front. In Antioquia, the military thwarted an explosive attack in Briceño by neutralizing materials intended for use by drones.
Law enforcement has achieved several high-profile arrests and seizures. In Buenaventura, police captured Jonathan Orobio, alias ‘Menor’, a zonal leader of the Los Chiquillos gang. In Dosquebradas, ‘Operación Marte’ led to the arrest of seven members of the ‘La Cordillera’ organization, including a key leader.
Narcotics interdiction efforts have yielded significant results, including the seizure of 15 kilograms of heroin and fentanyl in Nariño, the destruction of a coca paste laboratory in Guaviare, and the recovery of 730 kilograms of marijuana. Additionally, military operations in Maicao resulted in the capture of an ELN member and the seizure of war material.
Other regional actions include intensified security controls in Riohacha, traffic and safety enforcement in Dosquebradas, and the dismantling of an illegal panela production site in Nariño.
