Colombian cities roll out property tax discount programmes for thousands of residents

The municipal government of Bucaramanga approved a tax‑relief plan that offers discounts of up to 80% on sanctions and interest for overdue property, industry and commerce taxes owed before 31 December 2025. Taxpayers must still pay the full principal and a reduced portion of interest, with the discount decreasing to 70% after 31 August 2026. The measure aims to recover arrears, ease the burden on debtors and boost municipal revenue.

In the city of Yopal, the treasury announced early‑payment incentives for the 2026 property tax. Residents who settle the tax by 31 May can receive a discount of up to 30%, with additional tiered reductions of 15% (until 31 May), 10% (until 31 July) and 5% (until 30 September). Payments can be made in person or online through the city’s portal, and a quarterly installment option is available for those unable to pay the full amount at once.
