Colombian Cities San Cristóbal and Neiva Roll Out Expanded Animal Protection Initiatives

The Local Animal Protection Council in San Cristóbal coordinated community sessions, mobile veterinary brigades, mass sterilisation, rabies vaccination, vitamin supplementation and de‑worming for pets in low‑income neighborhoods. The council also organised public training on responsible pet ownership and adoption events, aiming to reduce abandonment and improve public health.

In Neiva, the municipal council approved a new Municipal Fund for Animal Protection and Welfare. The fund will provide permanent financing for sterilisation, vaccination, veterinary care, rescue operations, and the City Animal Welfare Center. Funding sources include the municipal budget, fines for animal‑abuse cases, donations and partnerships with public and private entities, ensuring sustained support for animal‑protection programmes.
