Franco Armani returns to Atlético Nacional

Argentina’s goalkeeper Franco Armani, 39, has re‑joined Colombian club Atlético Nacional on an 18‑month contract that runs until December 2027. The former River Plate and national‑team player signed as a free agent and was presented as a club idol, with the club highlighting his 13 titles won during his earlier stint (2010‑2018) and his international experience.

Armani’s return was showcased during a charity friendly against Venezuela’s Deportivo Táchira on 17 July 2026 at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium. The match, organized by the new coach Lucas González, aimed to raise funds for victims of the recent Venezuelan earthquake. The Argentine keeper received a warm ovation from the crowds, delivering a brief speech before the game. Deportivo Táchira won the encounter, but the event marked the official debut of González’s technical staff and the public unveiling of Armani’s comeback.

The signing is billed as a key reinforcement for Nacional’s upcoming Liga BetPlay campaign, providing experience, leadership and depth to the squad ahead of the second half of the 2026 season.
