Colombian Constitutional Court inspects La Guajira to monitor Wayuu children's rights

The Colombian Constitutional Court is conducting a judicial inspection in La Guajira to evaluate progress regarding Sentence T-302 of 2017. This landmark ruling declared a state of unconstitutional affairs to protect the fundamental rights of Wayuu children, specifically concerning access to water, health, and food security.

The inspection covers the municipalities of Uribia, Maicao, Manaure, and Riohacha. The Office of the Attorney General is accompanying the court to monitor compliance and has emphasized the need for better coordination between national authorities and local administrations to ensure effective delivery of health, education, and identification services.

While recent actions have reached over 3,200 children, institutional obstacles continue to hinder the full implementation of the ruling. The court and the Attorney General aim to move beyond isolated interventions toward sustainable solutions that guarantee the dignity and rights of the Wayuu indigenous population.
