Colombian creators use AI for political satire

Independent creators in Colombia are utilizing artificial intelligence and social media to engage in political satire and public debate. Filmmaker and caricaturist Emanuel Vidal has gained significant traction with his series ‘Embusteroman’, which uses AI-enhanced caricatures to satirize President Abelardo de la Espriella.

Analyst César Caballero notes that while social media has expanded content distribution, algorithms may create echo chambers that limit ideological diversity. Caballero also observed that President De la Espriella’s communication strategy, which centralizes messaging and bypasses traditional media, has created a communicative vacuum. Vidal has adapted his creative process to algorithmic trends, opting for shorter video formats to maintain high engagement levels.
