In the Boyacá department, specifically in the municipalities of Muzo, Coscuez, and San Pablo de Borbur, mining operations are undergoing technical modernization. Investors are installing digital tools and air sensors in tunnels to improve worker safety and monitor conditions. Additionally, the National Mining Agency is supervising excavation zones to eliminate informal mining.

The gemological industry is utilizing QR codes and digital seals to track the history of each stone, ensuring ethical origin certification. This transparency allows mining communities to receive direct benefits from their labor. While Bogotá-based workshops process the raw materials for export, local designers are creating exclusive pieces to meet the high demand for untreated natural gems in Asian markets.
