Colombian government officials address infrastructure and security in Nariño and La Guajira
Colombian national government officials are coordinating efforts to improve road connectivity and security in several regions. In Bogotá, Governor Margarita Guerra met with representatives from the Ministries of Transport, Health, Housing, and Mines and Energy, as well as the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, to seek funding for the Mendihuaca bridge. This structure is essential for connecting the departments of Magdalena and La Guajira following damage caused by early-year winter rains. Currently, a military bridge maintains transit through this strategic corridor.
In Pasto, a delegation including Transport Minister Elsa Noguera, Deputy Defense Minister Claudia Carrasquilla Minami, and Invías Director Juan Carlos Ostos met with the Colombian Truckers Association of Nariño and Cauca. The group discussed security concerns along southwestern corridors and reviewed a package of eight infrastructure projects valued at 2.5 trillion pesos. Priority projects include the Juanambú and Pajajoy bridges and the San Francisco – Mocoa variant. To address insecurity, the Ministry of Defense and the Police will coordinate special armed surveillance operations to protect cargo transit toward the center of the country and the southern border.
