Colombian judo athletes secure medals in regional competitions
Colombian judo athletes have achieved notable success in recent regional and national competitions. In Palmira, 13-year-old María Lucía García Fernández won a gold medal in the Under-15 category during the 2026 Intercolegiados Departmental Games. Despite facing economic challenges and training in the rural area of Cienegueta, Tuluá, García Fernández also secured a bronze medal at the National Games held in mid-September.
In Ibagué, the Meta Judo League delegation earned one silver and three bronze medals at the National Championship for various age categories, including Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, and Cadets. The silver medal was awarded to the men's team. However, technical director Carlos Moya expressed concern regarding the delegation's ability to participate in upcoming qualifying events for the 2027 National Games due to undefined economic support from Idermeta.
