Colombian military operations and allegations in Vichada and Nariño

In the Vichada department, peasant communities in Cumaribo have denounced a bombing at the El Retiro farm, which occurred on October 5, 2026. Local organizations, including the Asociación de Colonos del Alto Vichada and the Corporación Claretiana Norman Pérez Bello, allege the Colombian Aerospace Force (FAC) may be responsible. A community inspection on October 14 revealed approximately 48 impact craters, some measuring three meters deep. The attack reportedly destroyed a home and damaged various crops, including avocado, orange, corn, and cacao. Notably, the farm was reportedly linked to a voluntary illicit crop substitution program.

Separately, in the Nariño department, a joint operation between the Colombian Aerospace Force and the Army discovered an illegal cache of 35 high-power homemade grenades in El Peñol. Authorities state the explosives belonged to the Franco Benavides structure and were intended for use with drones to attack armored vehicles and police installations. The explosives were destroyed in a controlled manner following intelligence work and aerial image analysis.
