Colombian military operations target major criminal groups
Colombian security forces have conducted two significant operations against criminal organizations in different regions of the country.
In Chocó, a joint operation between the Military Gaula and the National Police led to the capture of an individual known as ‘Alias Darío’ or ‘Alejo’ in Condoto. A high-ranking member of the Clan del Golfo with over 14 years of criminal history, he served as a zone leader for the Jhon Fredy Orejuela sub-structure. Authorities state his activities included orchestrating armed confrontations against the ELN and participating in violent incidents in Lloró. His arrest is expected to weaken the group’s command and control capabilities and hinder their territorial expansion toward Bagadó.
In the department of Cesar, the National Army engaged in combat with members of the Autodefensas Conquistadoras de la Sierra in San Alberto. The operation resulted in the capture of four individuals, one of whom was wounded. During the encounter, military forces seized six pistols, ammunition, communication equipment, and other supplies. President Abelardo De La Espriella confirmed the operation, stating that the military will continue to pursue criminal structures that threaten national security.
