Colombian military survivors evacuated after Black Hawk crash
Nineteen military personnel have been rescued following the crash of a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter in the rural area of Inzá, Cauca, on October 19, 2026. The aircraft, identified as 2175, was conducting a mission to supply troops and transport personnel when it went down.
The group included four crew members and 15 soldiers from the General José Hilario López Infantry Battalion. Following the crash, the survivors endured several days in the jungle due to difficult terrain, dense vegetation, and adverse weather conditions that hindered rescue efforts.
Medical attention and psychological support were provided to all survivors. Two soldiers with fractures were transferred to the Central Military Hospital in Bogotá, while four others were taken to medical centers in Popayán. The remaining 13 personnel were evacuated by air to Neiva, Huila, on October 21. Survivors noted that their military training was essential for survival while establishing improvised camps in the area.
