Colombian municipalities implement initiatives for women's rights and caregiving

In Manizales, the local government, through the Secretariat of Women and Gender Equity, has certified more than 150 caregivers as part of the ‘Formar para el Cuidado’ program. This initiative, held in partnership with CEDER and SENA, aims to dignify caregiving work and provide formal recognition and labor opportunities for those who dedicate themselves to caring for others.

Mayor Jorge Eduardo Rojas Giraldo reported that the number of certified individuals has grown significantly, from 44 in 2024 to 124 in 2026, totaling 225 certifications during his administration. The program seeks to transform caregiving into a recognized skill set that allows for professional development.

In the Suba locality of Bogotá, the local administration has allocated over 92 million pesos toward initiatives promoting equality, participation, and recognition for women. These efforts focus on supporting female entrepreneurs and community leaders. As a result of these institutional commitments, the Suba Local Mayor's Office received the ‘Sello de la Igualdad’ (Equality Seal) from the Bogotá District Secretariat for Women.
