Colombian navy and partners seize more than 6,000 kg of cocaine and marijuana in Caribbean and Pacific operations
The Colombian navy intercepted a shipment of over 3,000 kg of cocaine in the Caribbean, some packages bearing marks linked to the Spanish port of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, highlighting ongoing maritime routes between South America and Europe. The seizure underscores the continued use of established smuggling channels despite previous interdictions.
In a separate operation south of Golfito, Costa Rica, a multinational task force that included the U.S. Southern Command, Joint Interagency Task Force‑South, Colombia, Panama and the Costa Rican coast guard stopped the vessel Ángel del Pacífico. Crews recovered 3,220 kg of marijuana and 175 kg of cocaine, arrested three suspects and seized the boat. The coordinated effort reflects the growing role of Costa Rica’s coast guard and U.S. partnerships in interdicting large drug flows from Colombia toward North America and beyond.
