Black Sea cargo ship Khoryv sunk by drone attack

The Comoros-flagged cargo ship Khoryv was sunk by a drone attack in the Black Sea, 13 nautical miles off the coast of Constanta, Romania. The incident, which occurred on Friday, October 23, 2026, resulted in one death and left three sailors missing.

The vessel was carrying a crew of 13, consisting of ten Ukrainian and three Azerbaijani nationals. Nine survivors were rescued from the water by the Norwegian offshore vessel Sartor, operated by Høyland Offshore, which was working on a nearby Romanian oil field.

Romanian authorities and the European Union have attributed the attack to Russia, describing it as a violation of international law and a threat to global maritime security. Romanian President Nicușor Dan characterized the event as an escalation of Russia's war against Ukraine.
