Colombian Police launch prevention campaigns against sexual exploitation in Ipiales

The Colombian National Police are strengthening prevention and awareness campaigns in Ipiales, Nariño, to combat commercial sexual exploitation. These actions are being carried out in observance of the International Day Against Commercial Sexual Exploitation on September 23.

Authorities are focusing on protecting children and adolescents, who are particularly vulnerable to exploitation, human trafficking, abuse, and other forms of violence involving deception, threats, or manipulation. Due to Ipiales' status as a border municipality, officials emphasize the need for heightened vigilance, victim identification, and community coordination.

Sub-inspector Ediel Araujo of the National Police in Ipiales highlighted the importance of pedagogical campaigns targeting parents, teachers, and youth. The institution stressed that combating these crimes requires more than just control operations; it relies heavily on timely reporting and community awareness of warning signs to prevent exploitation and recruitment.
