Colombian police seize over 5 tonnes of marijuana in Valle del Cauca

Police National seized 5,545 kg of marijuana on a highway linking Villa Rica and Palmira in the Valle del Cauca department. The truck, a Sinotruk, was stopped after the driver ignored a stop signal and fled, crashing on an alternate road. Inspectors found 226 packages containing the drug, valued at roughly 4.37 million Colombian pesos and estimated to represent more than 5.5 million doses. The vehicle was assessed at about 238 million pesos. Colonel Jair Alonso Parra Archila, director of the Police’s Transit and Transport Unit, said the operation prevented millions of doses from reaching the illegal market and praised the officers’ determination. The Valle del Cauca Mobility Secretary, Iván Camilo Arboleda Marín, highlighted the coordination between the Secretariat and the police in striking blows against narcotics trafficking. The case has been handed to the Valle del Cauca Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation and possible arrests of the driver and other network members.
