Colombian political parties define congressional alignments
Colombian political parties have officially declared their legislative alignments for the next four years under the administration of President Abelardo de la Espriella. The Alianza Verde party has notably voted to declare itself independent from the government, a decision passed with 38 votes in favor and 8 against following internal factional disputes.
The resulting congressional landscape provides the government with a favorable majority through a coalition including the Conservative Party, Centro Democrático, La U, Salvación Nacional, Cambio Radical, and the Liberal Party. The primary opposition bloc is led by Pacto Histórico, followed by the En Marcha movement. Other groups, such as Mira, Dignidad, and Compromiso, have also declared independence.
As the legislature prepares for upcoming challenges, the Congress must address the 2027 General Budget, which is set at 634.9 trillion pesos. The government is also facing a fiscal gap that may necessitate a tax reform to reduce the burden, according to Finance Minister Miguel Gómez.
