Colombian President Gustavo Petro barred from using X ahead of second‑round election

A judge in Medellín issued an order prohibiting Colombian President Gustavo Petro from using his personal X (formerly Twitter) account for any electoral propaganda in the days leading up to the second‑round presidential vote. The decision cites Petro’s posts as a violation of a prior injunction from the country’s top administrative court, which had already barred him from intervening in election matters via the platform.

The ban remains in force until the election precincts close on Sunday at 16:00 local time (midnight in Greece). The judge also ordered that official presidential communication channels not be used for election‑related statements or commentary at national or international events. Petro, a prolific social‑media user, has publicly backed left‑wing candidate Iván Sepúlveda against right‑wing contender Amébar de la Espregia.

The ruling seeks to prevent any content that could "favor or harm" any candidate, reinforcing the court’s earlier effort to keep the campaign free from presidential influence through social media.
