Colombian Prosecutor General's Office Tightens Procurement Oversight During Government Transition

The Vice‑Procurator General of Colombia instructed regional, provincial and district prosecutors to intensify preventive monitoring of state contracts as the current administration of President Gustavo Petro ends on 7 August 2026 and the transition to President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella begins. The directive, issued through a memorandum, orders verification that all contracting actions comply with constitutional and legal principles, including Law 80 of 1993, Law 1150 of 2007, Decree Law 1851 of 2021 and Resolution 108 of 2025, and that they are anchored in each entity’s Annual Acquisition Plan. Prosecutors are also tasked with reviewing the legality of procedures in decentralized agencies and special‑regime entities, ensuring transparency, protection of public assets and continuity of essential services throughout the empalme period.
