Colombian regional development: Investment plans for Antioquia and Risaralda
The Colombian national government has identified 48 investment projects for the Antioquia department, valued at approximately $57.6 trillion pesos. Announced by Julián Buitrago, director of the National Planning Department (DNP), the portfolio aims to address security, reconstruction, social development, connectivity, economy, and education. The execution of these projects is expected to depend on co-financing between the national government, the Antioquia governorship, local municipalities, and the private sector, with the potential to generate 1.6 million jobs.
In the department of Risaralda, the Secretariat of Economic Development and Competitiveness has presented a 2027 budget proposal to the Assembly. The proposed $8.16 billion pesos is intended entirely for investment, distributed among commerce, industry, and tourism ($7.37 billion), science, technology, and innovation ($570 million), and mines and energy ($220 million). This budget represents an approximate 2% increase over 2026 resources and includes initiatives for economic reactivation and tourism promotion following an earthquake on August 10.
