Colombian regional officials sanctioned in separate corruption scandals over sports procurement and compensation fund
The Colombian Attorney General's Office sentenced five former officials and contractors of the Instituto Departamental de Recreación y Deportes de Santander (Indersantander) for irregularities in a contract to purchase tennis equipment. Penalties range from eight to fifteen years of disqualification from public office, citing prices far above market rates for rackets and balls.
In a parallel investigation, former Nariño Government Secretary Edgar Alonso Insandará Guerrero was arrested alongside three others in connection with a large‑scale corruption probe into the regional Caja de Compensación Familiar (Comfamiliar). Authorities say the scheme involves more than thirty individuals and concerns alleged financial mismanagement within the compensation fund.
Both cases highlight ongoing concerns about procurement oversight and financial transparency in Colombian departmental institutions.
