Samuel García and family face corruption complaint in Nuevo León

The Morena party in Nuevo León has filed a formal complaint with the Specialized Prosecutor in Combating Corruption against Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda, his wife Mariana Rodríguez Cantú, and several family members and officials. The complaint alleges a scheme involving the embezzlement and illicit triangulation of public funds exceeding 1.4 billion pesos.

According to the allegations, resources paid by the state government to various providers were subsequently transferred to a private law firm, Fiscal Abogados, which is linked to the Governor’s father. The legal action, led by Senator Alejandro Murat Hinojosa and Secretary General René González, seeks to investigate potential crimes including illicit enrichment, embezzlement, abuse of functions, and money laundering.

Morena has requested the intervention of several federal agencies to trace the financial trail, including the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), and the Tax Administration Service (SAT). The party highlighted a statement from the Governor during a previous political trial, in which he argued that public resources lose their nature once transferred to private individuals, a claim the complainants argue must be scrutinized under the legal framework.
