Colombian woman flees to Mexico to escape violence

A 27-year-old Colombian woman, identified as María, traveled to Mexico in January 2024 as part of a journey toward the United States to escape life-threatening violence in her home country.

María reported that her partner, a state employee with ties to an illegal armed group, faced consequences after attempting to retire from his position. This led to aggressive reprisals against María's family, including her son and mother, as well as her own kidnapping. Following her release, she faced continued threats from the armed group and domestic violence from her partner, prompting her decision to seek safety abroad.
