Colombia's 2026 presidential inauguration budget climbs to 5.95 trillion pesos

The Colombian Department of Administrative Presidency (Dapre) signed contracts to organise the presidential inauguration scheduled for 7 August 2026. The total budget approved for logistics, technical production, diplomatic protocol and related services is 5.95 trillion Colombian pesos, an 18 % rise from the 5.04 trillion pesos spent on the 2022 ceremony under President Gustavo Petro.

A separate contract for the transmission of the hand‑over of power is valued at roughly 3.5 trillion pesos, about 280 billion pesos more than the cost of the 2018 inauguration of Iván Duque. The spending comes amid controversy over the proposed venue – with some officials suggesting locations outside Bogotá, including the Cauca department or a military installation – but the logistical preparations have been completed in advance of the transition.
