Colombia's Accusation Commission seeks transfer of Álvaro Uribe case

The Accusation Commission of the House of Representatives in Colombia has unanimously requested that the Attorney General's Office transfer the investigation involving former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez to the Commission. The case concerns alleged involvement in aggravated conspiracy related to the Hacienda Guacharacas and the paramilitary Bloque Metro group.

The request is based on the argument of presidential immunity, as the alleged crimes occurred during Uribe's term as president (2002–2010). If the Attorney General's Office does not comply with the transfer, the matter will be referred to the Constitutional Court to resolve the conflict of jurisdiction.

The decision has faced criticism from Senator Carolina Corcho, who argued that the crimes—including massacres and the murder of Jesús María Valle—occurred between 1996 and 1998 while Uribe was Governor of Antioquia. She maintained that such crimes, classified by the Supreme Court as crimes against humanity, fall under the jurisdiction of the Attorney General's Office rather than the Commission. The Pacto Histórico political party issued a statement denying that their votes promote impunity, noting they now support the Attorney General continuing the investigation while the Constitutional Court determines the proper authority.
