Colombia's Asomicrofinanzas proposes reforms to boost microcredit
The Colombian Association of Microfinance Institutions (Asomicrofinanzas) presented a strategic agenda to the newly appointed national government in Bogotá, meeting with Finance Minister Miguel Gómez Martínez. The plan targets the 2026‑2030 period and seeks to raise micro‑enterprise productivity, broaden access to formal microcredit, and cut informal labour.
Asomicrofinanzas notes that micro‑enterprises make up 95.1 % of Colombia’s firms, generate about half of national employment and contribute roughly 40 % of GDP. Key proposals include a national policy for micro‑enterprise development, a progressive formalisation pathway that strengthens the Simple Tax Regime, acceleration of Open Finance, a national information system for micro‑businesses, and programmes for digitalisation, technological innovation and business education. The agenda also calls for changes to interest‑rate calculation methods, lower regulatory costs for guarantee‑backed loans, stronger financing for small agricultural producers, improved digital‑payment interoperability via the Bre‑B system, and a re‑banking strategy for the financially excluded. Finally, it targets the informal “gota a gota” loan market by expanding formal financing alternatives.
