Luis Abinader elected president of the PRM
The Dominican Republic's ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) has elected a new leadership structure through a consensus-based single slate during its National Assembly of Delegates. President Luis Abinader was elected president of the party by acclamation, succeeding José Ignacio Paliza.
In a strategic move to allow Abinader to focus on his presidential duties, the assembly approved a modification to the party statutes. While some positions were originally intended for two-year terms, the new national leadership will serve for four years, until 2030. Deligne Ascención was appointed as the first Executive Vice President, a role designed to manage the party's daily operations.
