Colombia's Cúcuta Metropolitan Aqueduct Audit Reveals $121 Million Fiscal Irregularities

The Comptroller General of Colombia’s audit of the Metropolitan Aqueduct project serving Cúcuta, Villa del Rosario and Los Patios identified eight administrative findings, six of which may have disciplinary consequences. Two fiscal findings total about 121.264 million Colombian pesos. The largest fiscal issue, roughly 120.948 million pesos, concerns Subproject 4 covering Villa del Rosario and Los Patios. A second fiscal finding of 315 million pesos relates to Subproject 1 (water capture and line) and an order‑change in the 2020 construction contract. The audit highlighted deficiencies that prevent proper integration of the new infrastructure with existing water systems, threatening the effective use of public resources. The Comptroller announced ongoing monitoring of corrective actions to improve project management and safeguard public funds.
