Colombia's Chamber Commission seeks transfer of Álvaro Uribe investigation

The Colombian Chamber of Representatives' Commission of Investigation and Accusation has approved a unanimous request for the Prosecutor General's Office to transfer files related to investigations involving former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez. The request, initiated by Uribe's defense attorney Jaime Granados, argues that the Commission has jurisdiction due to presidential immunity, as the investigation includes alleged crimes of aggravated conspiracy that continued into 2003 while Uribe was president.

The investigation concerns the massacres of El Aro and La Granja, the murder of human rights defender Jesús María Valle, and the alleged formation of the paramilitary Bloque Metro. Five representatives from the Pacto Histórico political coalition supported the motion to request the transfer of the case files.

The Prosecutor General's Office has responded by maintaining its competence to continue the investigation. Gloria Marcela Abadía Cubillos, the third delegated prosecutor to the Supreme Court of Justice, stated that the entity retains authority over the case, noting that the underlying facts primarily stem from years when Uribe was governor of Antioquia rather than president.
